Daisy Ridge Cookie Sale (Not yet updated for 2008, but good info...)

Yes, it's that time again. Are you ready?

Important Dates
  • See the Calendar for important Cookie Dates. You can tell the cookie dates from other items because they'll all start with the word Cookies!
  •
    The Big Picture View

You'll also want to read your handbook for more details about the sale.

    1. Attend Cookie Training
    2. Confirm there aren't errors on the cookie order forms.
    3. Get parent permission forms
    4. Train girls. See the Training Your Girls section of this page for ideas. The girls cannot get their forms unless you have a parent permission form. At this meeting, you may want to ask for Parent Volunteers to help at Delivery Day and schedule your booth sale. It's also helpful to give parents a handout of due dates & reminders.
    5. Sell cookies!
    6. Schedule booth sale at a popular location, such as Kroger. (optional) Turn in Booth Sale Permission slips ASAP. (Tip: Publix and Target do not let you sell in front of their store, so don't waste your time asking them. )
    7. Collect orders from girls
    8. Turn in T-2A and 200+ pin forms to SU Cookie Chair. (see Calendar for dates) This may have changed for 2008.
    9. At the February SU meeting, sign up for a cookie pick-up time.
    10. Pick up cookies from Shamrock Middle. See the Delivery Day Guidelines for more details.
    11. Distribute cookies to parents as best fits your schedule. The girl's guardian *must* sign the T-1A form saying they picked up their cookies. Some troops require that parents pre-pay for the entire order now, before getting their cookies.
    12. Girls deliver cookies.
    13. Hold a booth sale. (optional)
    14. Deposit cookie sale money to Bank of America.
    15. Turn in Cookie Sale Report & forms and BoA deposit slips to SU Cookie Chair.

    Cookie Sale Highlights
    Special things to note :
    • The amount you make per box is going to depend upon the amount of cookies your troop sells. You'll make the most money per box if you sell 85 cases. (That's 1020 boxes. Don't worry, it's easier than you might think.) If you sell 175 cases, you'll get an extra bonus of $175.
    • Turn Booth Permissions Slips in ASAP so you get your location of choice and we don't wind up with 2 troops at one location.
    • Girls who sell 400 packages of cookies earn a day camp mini-session or $125 credit towards a larger session. There are several levels of campership prizes; see your Cookie Sale Handbook for details.
    • Discuss with leader how the money and cookie delivery day will be handled in your troop. Council does not require for parents to pay when they pick up the cookies from you. However, your leader can. Be sure to inform parent prior to delivery day and help them understand the rationale.
    • Leaders will sign up for a time to pick up the cookies at the February Service Unit meeting. Cookie Managers, talk to your Troop Leaders about what general time to pick up their cookies. Check the Delivery Guidelines to understand the procedure and know how many cars you will need to have waiting for you outside the school.
    • Have parent sign the T-1A form for cookies on delivery day. This is your legal recourse in the unfortunate event that you don't get the money from your parents.
    • Ensure deposit slips are validated with the amount of deposit and you can read it on all the copies before you leave Bank of America.

Suggestions on other topics can be found on the tips page.

    Helpful Forms
Forms used by different troop leaders:
Ok, really they're all just Vicky's forms. But, if you have anything to add or any suggestions for these, let me know! Have a form or other tools that would be helpful? Email it along & we'll post it.

    Setting Goals
Have the troop set a troop selling goal per girl. The troop earns up to 62 cents per box! Talk about what the girls would like to do, camp, roller skate, museum trip. Then estimate how much it costs per girl. Now you have a goal the girls can understand!

    Know the Merchandise
Make sure the girls are familiar with the cookies names and flavors. Put the different cookie names in a bowl. Have the girls draw a cookie and describe it/draw it for the troop. Advise customers that cookies freeze well!

    Practice!
Rehearse sales presentations through skits. Make a list of situations they may come up against and see if they can work out a solution in the skit. (Note from Vicky: I really liked this idea from someone and did it last year. I had parents stay and set up different practice stations. One was making phone calls to family members, another to deal with a mean person answering the door, another was being invited into a strangers house, etc. It gave the girls real practice and help teach the parents also what the girls were going to need to do.)

    Safety
    Discuss important safety rules:
    1. Sell with a buddy
    2. Wear your GS identification
    3. Sell in an area you are familiar with
    4. Go door to door only in the daylight hours
    5. An adult must also go when selling door to door
    6. Never enter a customer's home
    7. Only give out a Leaders Number to a customer
    8. Adults must be present for booth sales

Work on a Patch, Pin, or Charm
There are multiple patches the girls can work on per age level. Already earned all the patches? There's also a pin worksheet that changes every year.
    Brownies:
    Cookies Count
    Smart Cookie (new)
    Cookie Activity Pin
Penny Power & others can also be earned
    Juniors:
    Cookie Connection
    Cookie Biz (new)
    Cookie Activity Pin
    11 to 17 :
    On the Money (Studio 2B)
    Cookies and More (Studio 2B)
    Cookies and Dough (Interest Project)

The cookie sale could also be the project for several other badges.
