Daisy Ridge Service Unit

Troop Checklist

Complete the following items and you'll be well on your way for a great new year!

For all Troops in the Fall
You need to collect the following:
Registration forms for each girl
Registration forms for each adult volunteer (optional)
If you have girls/adults registering this fall, you'll need to turn in 2 forms to the Service Unit. One is a dues summary and the other is a list of each girl registering. Get these forms at your SU meeting.
Updated Health History for each girl
Council Dues for each member ( $10 for girl and adults)
Daisy Ridge postage ($7/troop)
Daisy Ridge Dues ($3 /girl; does not apply to Daisies)
Troop Dues (amount determined by troop)
Family Partnership Campaign contributions (optional), per family. Encourage every family to contribute at whatever level as comfortable for them. This is what pays for all the financial assistance we provide and for capital improvements towards our camps.
Volunteer Application for all adult volunteers. (Now required for all adult volunteers before they can work with the girls. A background check is conducted. Only needed once per volunteer. This does take some time, so get these in early!) Check with Camille cdavis at girlscoutsnwga.org to confirm that your parents have been approved.
Updated Vehicle Log for all adult volunteers who may be drivers. (Required before first field trip; easier to get it out of the way now.)
Volunteer Position Descriptions for each 01 & 02 in your troop.
Make sure your First Aider is still up-to-date with their training. You cannot go on any field trips without a current First Aider.
Use the Join Girl Scouts letter to sign up more girls!
Consider donating to the Uniform Exchange. (This could be considered a service project.)
Have a look at the Resource Center guide, Check it out. This is a list of all the wonderful "treasure boxes" and other resources that you can check out from the Resource Center.

Simplifying things...
The above is a pretty big list. Ask your parents to bring the following to your Parent Meeting and you should be able to get through the list.

Checkbook, or the amount of any remaining dues and Family Partnership campaign donations.

Child's medical information, including insurance

For chaperone/drivers, bring your Driver's License and proof of insurance.

For First Aiders, their CPR/First Aid certification

During the meeting, try to spread the wealth... I mean, work. Line-up parents to chair the following:

  • Cookie sales
  • Transportation for field trips (Or even the person to be the contact *not* on the field trip, in case of emergencies.)
  • Family Partnership Campaign
  • Meeting refreshments
  • Community service projects
  • Troop Camper, etc.
The girls enjoy Scouting even more when their families are involved in some way And it helps to avoid leader burn-out!

New Troops or Bridging Troops

New Leaders (01's) need to complete the New Leader Training (formerly HGG1) before they can begin meeting. It is now offered three ways: regular 2 ½ hour class, on-line, and facilitated home study. Check the Training section of the Council website for the latest class offerings.

Leaders must complete the Leader training for their specific level (Daisy, Brownie, Junior, and 11-17 Advisor) within three months of becoming a leader.

Co-leaders (02's) also must complete the New Leader Training as well as training for their specific level (Daisy, Brownie, Junior, and 11-17 Advisor) within 3 months of becoming a co-leader.

If you plan on camping, you'll need to make sure that someone in your troop has taken the training classes, Cabin Camping and Platform Tent Camping. From the Learning Opportunities website, click Search for a Class, then Camping Skills.

Best of luck with your new year of Girl Scouting!
